13 Halloween Shots
Hi guys! It’s me again back with some more photography tips. Since it’s Halloween I wanted to show you guys 13 awesome Halloween photos that you can take this year with different locations and props. Halloween is such a fun time in general with the decorations and different treats, and when you throw Fall on top of that it makes for an unbeatable photo shoot. Rayna and I went around all month to a couple different shoots to take these pictures, so without further ado here they are!
Pumpkin patch
Let’s start off with a classic, the pumpkin patch. It’s one of the most iconic and fun places to be and to take pictures of! For this picture we went to the Dell’Osso Family Farm in Lathrop, California and like every year, it didn’t disappoint. There was a range of pumpkins in different sizes and shapes and we even grabbed some to bring back with us!
Corn Maze
Dell’Osso is a large farm so photo shots here could be endless! Especially with the gigantic corn maze they have. While walking through the maze you come to this platform that allows you to overlook the whole farm, but with the sun going down it gave me a whole spooky vibe. The best thing to remember when taking open landscape photos like this, is trying to make sure you take an even centered shot.
Wheelbarrow
While at Dell’Osso we saw people pushing these wheelbarrows around everywhere and I knew that I needed to take a picture with it, but when we got to the pumpkins they were all gone! We walked back to the car in despair until we saw this wheelbarrow empty sitting right next to our car! Rayna quickly got in with the pumpkin and we were able to take some fun shots.
Costumes
Now this is an oldie but a goldie. This photo was taken in a 2018 Halloween Photoshoot as we were all dressed up from characters from movie and play “Heathers”. Dressing up in coordinating outfits with friends are always fun, then throw a camera in the mix and it’s almost impossible not to act out all the scenes from the play!
Garland
This next shot was taken on our shoot with Authentic Ashlyn (sneak peak) with some orange garland. We use the garland as decorations in our rooms but they also make a great Photoshoot prop! The browns, reds, and orange all mix together to create a subtle but notable October Fall look.
Ghost Photoshoot
Now this was one of my favorite Photoshoots ever, shout out to Tik Tok for the idea! For this all you need is some white sheets and a pair of glasses and your all set! When I found this trending on Tik Tok I knew we had to do it and it was one of the most fun shoots I’ve ever had!
Spooky selfies
Spooky selfies are a must have in your Halloween shots. They allow you to express some creative freedom and some more personal shots. Whether you're in a ghost costume or have professional makeup on, selfies are always a great idea.
Mirror
Now a mirror is probably the number one most underrated and most needed Photoshoot prop. We figured this out during our three week trip in Oregon! The mirror helps by allowing your model to see themselves while the picture is being taken. In doing this, the model feels more relaxed and can see how they like their poses before the picture is even taken. It is also great to use it as a way to reflect the sun and add a fun dimension of the model looking at themself!
Scarf
For this shot we thought it would be fun to throw some designer on these already expensive looking models. The scarf brings in a new fun element to the picture and helps create a whole “I killed my husband for money” kind of vibe. For this shot you can use any subtle designer piece but make sure to not make it the sole prop, it should just fit in to whatever the model is wearing or doing.
Candle
I wish I could say this shot was all my idea and 100% intentional but it actually happened by complete accident. We were taking shots of the candle for our new “Featured Friday’s” and when we blew out the candle the smoke just wouldn’t stop blowing! I grabbed my camera as fast as I could and just started shooting away. The smoke gave the spooky makeup an even spookier background.
Spooky bouquet
Being on the road for Photoshoots can be tough because you might not always be able to bring everything you think you would want. But sometimes, you can just make it happen on the go. These plants were growing individually around the field that we were in so I decided to pluck a couple from each branch and tie them together. This made for an awesome spooky bouquet without the hassle of bringing your own flowers!
Smoke bombs
This is by far one of the most fun props we used! Smoke bombs come in handy for any and all occasions and Halloween is no different. We actually tried something knew and used smoke balls which were little balls that were easier to fit in tiny places. This allowed for the smoke to come out of props and give a spooky look to everything!
Witches Broom
Leave it to Trader Joe’s to have the best smelling prop. This witches broom is actually a cinnamon broom stick used to make any room smell like fall. This broom also makes for an awesome prop for photos! The broom gives the picture a witchier look and smells great while you work!
I hope these 13 shots help you bring some more fun and exciting new pictures to your fall and Halloween portfolio! Thank you guys for sticking with me for another week and I’m so excited for what’s coming next! Have a happy and safe Halloween!
With love,
Birdi
